莒光號出軌近24小時 台鐵花東線搶通
台鐵莒光號6月4號出軌意外，工務人員近24小時投入搶修，在5號中午搶通。根據稍早統計，到5號上午10點，這起事故，合計影響46列次、誤點688分、影響旅客大約6千人。(劉敏娟報導)
經過將近24小時搶修，花東線終於搶通，下行列車自404次起11:16從東竹開車，上行列車自303次起11:38富里出發，路線恢復正常行駛，台鐵各站都加強播音服務旅客。台鐵花蓮運務段長張建曆說明狀況：「搶修都完成了，車輛6點10分吊起，軌道11點15分完成鋪設，電力11點30號通電，號誌也都完成，第一班通車是303次自強號。」
這起火車出軌意外，發生在5號中午12點34分，台鐵台東經花蓮站開往彰化站651次莒光號列車，在花蓮南區東竹到富里間104公里19公尺處，發生出軌意外，第2車至第7車，共6輛車廂出軌，車輛傾斜、陷入道碴、轉向架也扭曲 ，當時車上旅客約50人，所幸無人受傷，在13：40以公路車輛接離現場。根據台鐵調查，出軌原因研判疑似因氣溫過高，當天溫度36度，而現場量測軌溫高達63度導致鋼軌挫屈出軌，這起意外由行保會調查中。
意外發生後，台鐵局本部及花蓮地區立即成立應變中心進行搶修。由於軌道損壞大約250公尺，台鐵出動大批工務人員與機具不眠不休搶修，首先分開吊離車輛，接著進行抽換鋼軌、並鋪設PC枕370根，同時還出動砂石車鋪設砂石。
而在旅客接駁方面，由於是單軌線，因此南下北上列次雖然照常行駛，但只能行駛到玉里、富里，旅客再搭乘客運接駁車轉運，使玉里火車站出現大批人潮排隊等接駁的景象。
統計到5號上午10點，總共影響46列次、誤點688分、影響旅客約5820人。台鐵表示，其中對號列車延誤超過45分鐘，旅客可於1年之內到各站辦理全額退費，造成旅客時間延誤，台鐵局深致歉意。
